Recently, I finished The Christmas Joy Ride by Melody Carlson. This Christmas-themed novel was a delightful read with an unexpected plot line. The story centers around an elderly woman with a hair-brained idea, and a lonely, lost young woman who is trying to figure out a few things. Through the novel, Joy takes Miranda on a surprising adventure that helps Miranda discover a few things about herself.
The Christmas Joy Ride isn’t your normal “feel good” fluffy Christmas story, and was a delight to read. It dealt with some real issues, and didn’t skirt around some of the more difficult parts of the holiday season. And even though this story takes an unconventional turn a few times, it was still a fun, joyful story to read. And things tie up wonderfully at the end, though the journey there was a little messy.
I would recommend The Christmas Joy Ride to anyone who loves a good story. Even though it is Christmas themed, it would be appropriate to read any time of year. It’s a relevant, relatable story that makes you think a bit but still leaves you feeling good. It was a fast read, but the writing style was engaging and made me not want to put the book down. That’s always a sign of a great book!
